Get ready for production
almost 6 years ago – Sun, Jul 01, 2018 at 09:21:59 PM

Dear Backers,

Thank you for being a part of our incredible journey to bring SmartTerra to life. Before we launched, we didn't know who else would be as excited about our idea as we were. Now, because of your support, we'll be able to start working with SmartTerra. Now, we are finishing the final design product and producing the new prototype. In July, we'll travel to China to meet the manufacturer and confirm all the production.

If you have friends or family who would be interested in supporting this project, it's not too late. We're keeping our campaign open in InDemand to give more people an opportunity to join in. Pre-order and get 32% OFF retail at http://bit.ly/Smartterra

Our priority is to deliver on our commitments to you and we'll keep you updated on our progress. As we hunker down to make SmartTerra a reality, you can expect to receive open, honest, & substantive updates from us monthly. Feel free to contact us [email protected] in the interim if you have any questions in the interim. Thanks again for your support!

 All the best,
 The SmartTerra Team

More Changes
More Changes

First of all, thank you for all the survey responses and the support you continue to give us. We truly appreciate it. We are still as busy as can be getting design tidying up and corrected for manufacturing. We have been in constant communication with the manufacturer about design changes before producing a new prototype. Their engineers have been giving us feedback on the changes. From their feedback/recommendations, we have to change several things, for instance:

  • Change the mounting grooves on the foundation plate.
  • Replace out the bulky mechanical latch for the water drawer with a magnetic latch.
  • Add water drawer handle

These things are to be expected. We are taking extreme cautions making these changes since we don't have much margin for mistakes. A lot of the changes are internal and have to do with mostly manufacturing related changes. They should not change the overall look of the design. We don't anticipate anything challenges that we cannot overcome at the moment. Can't wait to get this part over with for sure!

BackerKit surveys are coming!
almost 6 years ago – Mon, May 28, 2018 at 06:31:49 PM

Soon, you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to your BackerKit survey. It’s important to respond to your survey as quickly as you can since we need this information to fulfill your rewards.

You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://smartterra.backerkit.com.

If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you prefer to use, please contact support at https://smartterra.backerkit.com/faq.

Refining Prototype
Refining Prototype

Hello backers,

Thank you for your encouragement. Those positive comments really keep us going. We are still cranking away on refining and optimizing. Based on the observations of our existing prototype as well as the feedback from one of the backers we have decided to heighten up the unit by 3 cm. We also have thickened up some parts to make it stiffer and stronger. In additions, we are able to get rid of many unnecessary internal parts to keep the assembly simple and to keep the manufacturing cost down (without compromising the quality, of course!). Overall, we think it looks better proportionally. Still have some more minor things to work out, but, getting close to concluding the design. I need to emphasize again that manufacturing phrase is not about going fast off the gate. It is about getting it absolutely right. Mold injection process is the most expensive and mistakes at that stage would be catastrophic to the project. So far, we are still on track to getting this awesome project delivered.

BTW: We are still taking pre-orders on Indiegogo InDemand, please help spread the word about SmartTerra. Every pledge and contribution helps!

All about fine-tuning
almost 6 years ago – Thu, May 03, 2018 at 10:10:51 AM

Thank you for your patient. I know it has been awhile since the last update (and a backer let us know about it!). We have been busy with lots of stuff and forgot to keep up with the update posts to the valuable backers like you. I promise I will be more vigilant about informing you along the way. Right now, we are in the process of fine-tuning the final design and produce another prototype. This is a necessary step toward getting the product mass-produced. We are also actively looking for a reliable manufacturer that can help bring this to the finish line.
